§ 4. The Demon King’s Class is Pandemonium

The enchanted forest behind the Demon King Academy.

Magic circles appeared one after another, followed by the students teleporting in via Gatom.

“Everyone’s here. Let’s begin.”

I drew a magic circle over each student’s body. My target was their source.

“Ruminate,” I said, sending magic into the sources through a magic link. “Look deep, deep into the abyss of the future you must aim for—the future you will arrive at. I will wake the future sleeping deep within your sources and manifest your ideal selves.”

The students peered into their abysses as told, picturing their ideal form. One after another, their bodies were bathed in light. If the futures they were aiming for were being pictured clearly in their minds, those images would take shape. The outlines of the glowing students blurred and distorted, slowly splitting into two. The more they thought and the deeper they stared into the abyss, the more the separation would progress. Eventually, another body and source before each successful student.

“Edonica.”

In an even brighter flash of light, each body turned into an adult version of the student.

“Hey, what’s with this guy? He looks exactly like me!” Ramon yelped, leaping back. Before him was another Ramon who’d been created with Edonica. The Edonica Ramon stood taller than the original and wore armor over a toned body. His face was also far rougher than the real thing.

“Edonica reveals the future self you should strive to become. Using the image you came up with, a part of your source, and a portion of your magic, I manifested your potential.”

The Edonicas before them were just one possible destination point for each of them.

“Fight, learn their moves, and steal their strength. Then ruminate again. If your ideal shape changes, Edonica will change accordingly and evolve. However, that shape should never be unachievable. Use your Magic Eyes to look into the depths of your Edonica double and determine your own limits. Experience first hand what you’re suited for and what you don’t need.”

The students’ doppelgängers started running as though to lead the way.

“Hey, where are you going?!” Ramon yelled, giving chase.

“Normally, Edonica can only give shape to your ideal strength and skills. No matter how much magic you use, it won’t gain any intelligence or wisdom. The copies are merely masses of fighting instincts. However...”

I held my hand out over the ground. An enormous mass of magic particles rose from Delsgade behind me and gathered at my feet, forming the shadow of a sword. The shadow floated into the air and presented its hilt to me. As my hand grasped the shadow hilt, and the sword transformed into Venuzdonoa. I thrust the Abolisher of Reason into the ground and poured my magic into it.

“I will destroy that reason.”

Multiple layers of shadows extended from Venuzdonoa and connected to the doubles. The Edonica copies began to think for themselves.

“Hey, Ramon,” Ramon’s doppelgänger said.

“Wh-What?”

“You think you’re smart, don’t you? Just so we’re clear, you’re an idiot, and you’ll always be an idiot.”
